"I smell somethin' funky..."
by Jessica Scott
poet/singer

Dim lights, rolling hum of conversation over the faint tinkling of glasses at the bar…. Definitely a Saturday
night. Dolce Vita was an ideal place to be on March 28th 2009; a night to be filled with music and poetry. You
should have been there! It was an open setting topped off nicely with a temperature of 70 degrees. My
friends and I filled the small bar while I scouted out familiar faces. The band…… was to be playing. I’d just
walked in as the first set was over so I enjoyed the best glass of chilled Reisling I’ve ever had. Who could
complain? The men and women of the hour were walking around meeting and greeting new and old faces.
Scoping out the place I made out ML Caldwell’s family with his wife, Jennifer, beaming in the center.  His
newly adopted family included his band, the Immaculata, made up of Ramon Convia Del Monte (bass guitars),
Leon Daniel (drums/percussion), and Ashton Johnston (alto saxophone/backing vocals). This aptly named so
fresh and so clean band made their debut like they’ve been there all their life. The music was fun and it was
evident in the faces ML made while straight jamming along with the movements and flow of his fellow
musicians and well…. one couldn’t help but bop right along with them. I wasn’t the only one who felt that
way.  One person had this to say about the performance; “I liked his poem 'Hmm...' [ML] wrote for his wife. He
has no problem being in the spotlight. He was all like ‘this is my night look at me I’m doing my thing’. The
drummer and sax player were off the hook. Especially the drummer. You can tell he was into the music.
That bass player did his thing, too."

Sound exciting? It always is. But wait, there’s more! Check the calendar & you have the prospect to
either enjoy ML Caldwell & the Immaculata again or fill the void in your life when you passed up the initial
opportunity. Great for all you who enjoy long soulful nights. Drop in & you’ll be dancing out. Be there or be
square! Yup…. I said it.
